Spring/Summer 2011 Needs List

Stretch your donation!

We’ve got some good news – the Feinstein Foundation will proportionally match your donations with their annual $1 million dollar giveaway during the months of March and April.  Although it is not a dollar for dollar match since the $1 million is divided up proportionally among all of the participants (thankfully large non-profits are limited as to how much of the grant they can receive out of consideration for smaller organizations such as ours), it nevertheless is a great opportunity to essentially receive free money from the Feinstein Foundation.  Thanks for keeping this matching grant opportunity in mind during the next two months.  Every dollar you give will be worth more than a dollar through this matching grant during the months of March and April.

Plus, all your donations of non-perishable food items given during the months of March and April will also be counted at $1 a piece toward the challenge grant.

2010 Christmas Toy Giveaway

Thanks to our friends and supporters who donated tons and tons of new toys, we were able to provide 1,351 brand new toys for 237 needy children this Christmas.  Men in the New Life Program selected and wrapped gifts for their children and grandchildren, and After School Club families were also able to select gifts.  Enjoy the pictures of the festivities!

A Christmas Greeting

Christmas 2010 Newsletter

Dear Friend of the Mission,

I love Christmas!  It is a special time of year filled with family, friends and all of the wonderful festivities of the season (I think I have every movie version of the Christmas Carol including the Muppet version!).  My wife and I are especially excited because our son, his wife and our two precious granddaughters will be flying in from California to spend Christmas with us.  However, as much as we are looking forward to hugging and spoiling our granddaughters, Corinne (2 ½ years) and Ainsley (almost 1 year old), I can honestly say that I love Christmas most of all because it celebrates the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.  As greeting cards and decorations proclaim, Jesus truly is the reason for the season.

With your help and support, we work really hard to make the Mission a warm and loving home for the 50 homeless men living at the Mission.  We have festive decorations, special holiday meals, Christmas presents for our men, special chapels filled with joyful Christmas carols, and our annual toy giveaway for the children and grandchildren of our men.  There is no place like home for the holidays, and for our men, the Mission will be their home – a home filled with the love, joy and hope of Christmas.  With your support, we also provide toys and a fun-filled Christmas party for the precious children and their families in our After School Club.

As we come to the end of 2010, please be sure to include the Mission on your Christmas gift list.  Homelessness never takes a holiday, and your kind and generous gifts will benefit and bless our men throughout the year without any cutbacks in the critical services we provide.  If you own stock, please consider making a gift of appreciated stock.  A gift of stock is always a great help and can also provide you with some excellent tax benefits.  We can arrange for an electronic transfer of your stock.  If you would like to do this, please call me at 215 438 3094 (ext 102).  Thank you for investing in the lives of our men – to give them a future and a hope.  We could not do what we do apart from caring friends such as you!

May the joy and peace of Christmas be yours!

September 2010 Newsletter

September 15, 2010

The Lord has literally brought us through fire and water – come and celebrate with us 118 years of the Lord’s blessing upon the Whosoever Gospel Mission!

Dear Friends in Christ,

Even though we re-opened our men’s dormitory on November 24th, 2008 after rebuilding from the catastrophic arson fire of February 25, 2006, today (September 15th) marks the one year anniversary of operating at our full 50-bed capacity; for safety and staffing reasons, we operated at a reduced capacity until September 15, 2009.  This past year has been a year of challenges and blessings.  But in all things, the Lord has been faithful and good to us!  Your support and friendship are certainly part of His goodness to us.

Please accept my heartfelt invitation to attend our ministry celebration banquet on Saturday, October 23rd at Williamson Restaurant in Horsham, PA.  We’ve moved our banquet to Saturday night to make it easier to attend, and we’ve even lowered the price to $25.00 to encourage as many people as possible to attend.  Our banquet begins at 6:45 p.m. and will end on or before 9:30 p.m..  All of the banquet details are on the banquet invitation posted here on the web.  It would be wonderful to see you at our banquet.  Even with a great meal and program, the one thing that would be missing is you!  Reservations can be made by calling the Mission at (215) 438-3094 x.0 until Monday, October 18th.

Our theme this year is God’s Amazing Grace! Come on out to see and hear firsthand how the Lord has touched and changed forever our graduates, current residents, staff and volunteers with His amazing grace.  Your support and prayers have made you partners with us in the work of the Gospel here in Germantown.  How sweet the sound of God’s amazing grace – you too will enjoy the sweet sound of God’s amazing grace at our banquet.

Your friend and co-worker,

Robert A. Emberger, D.Min.
Executive Director
