BobMaking a way when there seems to be no way

Dear Friend of the Mission,

We help our men get unstuck. Homelessness and its “friends” relentlessly keep our men from moving forward with their lives. By God’s grace, we help our men move forward, get unstuck, achieve their goals, fulfill their hopes and find a way through, under, over and around the mountains of their lives. For example, a number of our men unfortunately dropped out of high school and then lie on job applications about having a high school diploma. They are afraid that if they tell the truth, they won’t be hired. However, their lie eventually catches up with them, and they are fired from their job for lying on a job application. As part of our New Life Program for homeless men, we help our men get their GED so they no longer lose out on jobs. Other men come to the Mission with a long list of felony convictions and years of jail time. They believe that their chances of getting a job are non-existent. However, we tell our men that with God all things are possible and that the Lord can open a door that no one can shut. We have seen time and time again our men with prison records get hired for good jobs. Serious health problems are another obstacle that stops our men dead in their tracks. However, the Mission provides a safe haven for our men to recover from serious health problems and get well. After our men regain their health, we then help them get a job so they can become self-supporting. Right now we have a man who is having knee surgery this month, another man with congestive heart failure who recently had a defibrillator surgically installed in his chest, and a man with life-threatening sleep apnea using a machine we helped him get to keep breathing while sleeping.

There are a multitude of other obstacles that keep our men from moving forward. But day-in and day-out, we help our men figure out a way to get unstuck. This is one of the most challenging parts of our ministry, but it is also one filled with great joy and celebration as we see God “parting the Red Sea” for our men over and over again. You faithful and generous financial support keeps the Mission going as a place where the impossible happens. Together we can rejoice when we see God making a way when there seems to be no way.

Working together with you,
